Asian Pacific American Heritage Week

APAHW is the University of Pennsylvania's week-long celebration of Asian Pacific-Islander American (APIA) heritage and culture. Every year, we bring together speakers, faculty, student leaders, and hundreds of attendees across a week of events ranging from our Extravaganza kickoff to dinner with Penn Asian American Studies department faculty and Big Asian, our annual charity talent show featuring students from our vibrant APIA community.

This year, APAHW will have one event on November 2nd, and the remaining events will be in the week of November 12-17th. Find out more on our Facebook page here!

APAHW First-Year Event
Fresh off to Penn:
A First-Year Event

“Fresh Off to Penn” will touch on everything you can experience at Penn—from success and failure to Penn face and expectations vs. reality in college. You will hear from upperclassmen experiences, ask questions, and learn more about people’s lived experiences at Penn - and write a letter to your future self!

APAHW Extravaganza

Come celebrate an APAHW classic with Extravaganza and numerous student cultural groups, performing groups, and plenty of food! Performers: Pan-Asian Dance Troupe, PennYo A Cappella, K-Beats, Atma, NAACH, Penn Sori, Dhamaka, Penn Lions, Penn Dure, Thillana, Masala

APAHW Extravaganza
"MasterChef" APAHW!

The masterchef event focuses on trying to get members of the API community more immersed into API food culture. We want to showcase the food in underrepresented API communities such as Pakistani and Indonesian food especially since East Asian foods tend to be more familiar with people.

APAHW Extravaganza

We will touch on the rise of Asian led films and TV shows like Crazy Rich Asians, work from William Yu, and content from Buzzfeed. Recreate famous magazine covers, movie posters - your photos will be edited to look like the published photographs and be a memento of your participation in this event!

APAHW Big Asian
Big Asian

Big Asian is our signature closing event, and we've added a new twist to highlight non-performing art as well this year! Come see our artists, singers, and dancers, eat dinner and desserts, and bid on contestants - all in an effort where proceeds go towards charity for the Indonesian earthquake.

We're excited for APAHW 2018, and know it's not something we could do without the help of so many people involved. We're looking for student volunteers to help out with the events. If you want to get involved, reach out to us here!
